The restaurant nestled in the Faena hotel already sets the mood with its dark paneling and almost neon-gothic architecture before you even sit down. The restaurant serves traditional restaurant Argentinean food including seafood, steak with starters ranging from Provoleta to empanadas. The food, service, quality and presentation are all top notch. The atmosphere and surroundings are a mix of kitschy, and baroque with paintings of top footballers, and other celebrities mixed in with older paintings. The restaurant is a place to see and to be seen, albeit on the pricier side, with quality to match. A perfect place for a high-end meal, or a celebrity sighting while enjoying good food.
Excellent restaurant and a great overall experience. I came here as part of a group and everything from the food to the service was spot on. The steak was incredible and clearly a highlight, and the staff were attentive without being over the top. The setting also makes it a perfect spot for a relaxed lunch. Would definitely recommend and would happily come back again.
We had a reservation for 730 on a Friday night and it seemed they also had an event on so a lot of people were asked to wait outside on the bench. We waited for 30mins but they brought out refreshments including vermouth and empanadas. Inside, the place is cozy and large with some unique decor - paintings, sculptures, trophies which all tell a story. We started with Malbec and a provoletta which was oozy and stretchy and just delicious! Next up we had two steaks from happy Argentinan cows- rib eye cap and the entrance skirt steak. Our server was extra nice and brought us a big portion of the cap which barely fit on the plate!! Both were succulent and delicious. We also had the tomatoes and papas. Could not finish everything! We had dessert which was a chocolate mousse with dulce. The staff offered this complimentary to make up for the wait.
El Mercado is an amazing elevated dining date spot to choose in Buenos Aires. I used whatsapp to set up our reservation and the concierge was very helpful finding a day and time. For food we ordered the Rib eye (750g) for 2 to share, fresh tomatoes, and the potato puree. All of the items were amazing. The steak was rich, seasoned well, and perfect for 2 to share. I left one star off for food as multiple items were not available which was disappointing. The service was great, asking us where we would like to be seated, very attentive and polite. Would absolutely come back!
The restaurant is at the Faena Hotel in Puerto Madero, both are tops, the food is amazing, much more expensive than it used to be, but absolutely worth the money. Best steaks! Period! Better than Rio or NYC. The service is a bit odd, the greeter always looked as if we were intruders, so keen on the room number, strange. The staff speak little english which is inconvenient, they try really hard and are very polite, but as I told the manager, they need to stop running around and look up. Every night when I asked for the check I had to raise my hand for 10 minutes. Still, highly recommended.
