Mama Antula Tour

On this tour through Buenos Aires, learn about the first saint in Argentina, Mama Antula, as we follow in her footsteps throughout the city.

What to Expect

Join us for a walking tour through Buenos Aires as we uncover the legacy of Mama Antula, Argentina's first saint. The tour begins at Lorea Square.

First, we will visit the Our Lady of Mercy Basilica, where the remains of Maria Antonia de Paz y Figueroa, better known as Mama Antula, are located. On February 11, 2024, Pope Francis canonized her, making her the first woman born in Argentina to become a saint.

Throughout the tour, we will explore her origins and legacy while seeing various landmarks in the Argentine capital. We will pass by the Church of the Arcangel Michael and visit Mayo Plaza, home to the Casa Rosada and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires. Inside this cathedral, we will find a portrait of Mama Antula, who was a consecrated layperson and founded the Daughters of the Divine Savior.

In Mayo Plaza, we will also view the exterior of the Buenos Aires Cabildo and move on to the Otto Wulff building, both of which have connections to Mama Antula that we will discuss.

Our 2.5-hour tour concludes at Our Lady of Montserrat Parish, in front of the Museum of the Holy House of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, a building established through Mama Antula's initiative.
