Been in Argentina for 5 days by now, had all sorts of meals.. from classic burger joints to Micheline guide restaurants... this is the first time I'm going out of my way to write a review. I was just before talking to my colleague and complaining how I didn't the the food was any good, until now....(still sitting here) Everything, from the bread Selection (including a beautiful ficaccia bread) and the little anchovies/sardines plates to the main course... I had the seefruit risotto... just excellent!!! You have to try this place!!! .. didn't get to the dessert yet, but I can anticipate it will be delightful!!!
After multiple trips and extended stays in Buenos Aires, I can confidently state that MARE has set a new benchmark for seafood in the city. Located in the sophisticated docks of Puerto Madero, this establishment seamlessly blends modern, high-end design with a culinary execution that is nothing short of exceptional. The Ambiance & Service The aesthetic is sleek and contemporary, providing an atmosphere that feels both exclusive and welcoming. The staff deserves particular praise; they are professional, intuitive, and possess a deep knowledge of the menu—a level of service that justifies the premium price point. The Culinary Highlights The seafood here is arguably the freshest I’ve encountered in Argentina. While the wine list offers a fantastic and curated selection of Argentine labels that pair beautifully with the maritime flavors, the food is the true protagonist. • A Professional Tip: If you are dining here, I highly recommend the sharing platters. They are generously portioned, impeccably seasoned, and offer a fantastic variety of flavors that showcase the kitchen’s range. • One Small Caveat: While the quality is consistent across the board, the Pulpo (octopus) is the only item I found difficult to justify. At $81.000 ARS, the portion size is surprisingly small compared to the rest of the menu. The Verdict MARE is undoubtedly an investment, but for those seeking a truly elevated dining experience in a stunning location, it is worth every peso. It has officially become my "must-visit" recommendation for seafood lovers in BA
A lovely spot, beautiful decor, and it has been so highly recommended that we were shocked at how mediocre it was. Service was friendly (mostly), but inept - our waitress returned to our table twice to confirm what we ordered, and it seemed like two of the waitresses were battling for attention and mistakes were made. But it was the food that was the most disappointing - prawns that had not had their intestinal tracts removed and that were so overcooked they were rubbery, and chipirones (baby squid) that still had their quills in them. Dry, overcooked fish. And no seasoning. Yes, Buenos Aires has limits on the amount of salt that restaurants can use, but we don't need a manager to come to the table to mansplain to us that "the government forbids us to use salt" (no, it doesn't), and that we don't understand the local culture (we've only been living here longer than he's been alive). And for both quality and quantity of food served, shockingly expensive.
The seafood was bland. Shrimp appetizer over cooked. Empanada dough was strange.
