La Cocina is where you experience true Argentinian food, hospitality, and culture. The restaurant itself, is like the 1930s era and La Cocina has a simple menu empanadas and bean soup. They only have two locations and I visited both of them cause they’re that good. The best experience you’ll ever get are at these places not fancy restaurants and trendy bars.
I recently had the pleasure of trying the homemade-style locro at La Cocina in Buenos Aires, and it was one of the most comforting and memorable meals I’ve had in the city. From the very first spoonful, it was clear that this dish was prepared with care, tradition, and genuine passion for Argentine cuisine. The locro arrived steaming hot, rich with aroma, and beautifully presented in a rustic bowl that immediately gave it a homemade feeling. The texture was perfect — thick, hearty, and deeply satisfying without feeling too heavy. Every ingredient tasted fresh and well balanced. The corn and beans were tender, the squash added a delicate sweetness, and the slow-cooked meats were incredibly flavorful and soft. Each bite carried layers of smoky, savory flavor that reflected hours of patient cooking. What impressed me most was how authentic and comforting the dish felt. It tasted like something prepared in a family kitchen rather than a restaurant. The seasoning was excellent: bold enough to bring warmth and depth, yet never overpowering the natural flavors of the ingredients. The spicy sauce served on the side added an extra dimension and allowed each person to customize the intensity to their liking. Beyond the food itself, the atmosphere at La Cocina made the experience even more enjoyable. The staff were warm, attentive, and clearly proud of the dishes they serve. You could feel the connection to Argentine culinary traditions in every detail. If you are visiting Buenos Aires and want to experience a truly authentic, homemade-style locro, La Cocina is absolutely worth visiting. It is comforting, flavorful, and prepared with heart — the kind of meal that stays with you long after the last spoonful.
Such a nice authentic vibe. Juicy, delicious empanadas. Carne suave was undoubtedly the best.
Empanadas so good we came back the next day for more. They are the right crispness / chewiness ratio you want out of an empanada and are super stuffed! Would recommend the spicy beef one or the Pikachu (sweet and spicy cheese onion) one.
Best empanadas in Buenos Aires. I got the carne picante and the cheese and onion one (forgot the name but starts with a p). Both were piping hot and super flavorful. The staff was so friendly and sweet. Amazing place
