Description
This demanding and fascinating adventure begins in the surroundings of Ushuaia, from where we enter the Andorra Valley, an area of wild beauty that is part of an area protected by the Ramsar Convention, recognizing it as a wetland of international importance. In this ecosystem, peat bogs, beaver dams, crystal clear rivers, and glaciers coexist, protecting vital water sources for the region.
The trail, which shares its first sections with the one leading to Laguna del Caminante, immerses us in an environment of dense vegetation, streams, and wet soil. During the hike, we cross four significant slopes, which we overcome without difficulty thanks to the support of our specialized tour guides and the use of mountain crampons, ideal for providing safety and stability on technical terrain.
As we gain altitude, the vegetation opens up and the traces of glacial modeling appear: steep peaks, U-shaped valleys, and rocky outcrops that bear witness to the natural force that shaped this landscape. The last part of the route is a little more demanding, with a steep final slope that is worth every step.
Upon reaching the Vinciguerra Glacier, we are rewarded with an intense emerald green lagoon at its feet and breathtaking views of the nearby glaciers. Our tour guide chooses the ideal spot to pause for lunch, enjoying a picnic surrounded by silence, ancient ice, and views that seem to be from another planet.
Before starting our return journey, we approach the front of the glacier, where we can feel the cold air emanating from the ice and contemplate its imposing presence up close. On the way back, with our bodies tired but our souls renewed, we still have time to appreciate the distant views of the Beagle Channel and Navarino Island, now in Chilean territory.
A complete experience for lovers of trekking and untamed nature, in a remote and deeply moving corner of the End of the World.
