Description
This approximately 10-kilometer round-trip trail reveals Ushuaia’s varied landscapes, leading to the Emerald Lagoon. Along the route, hikers traverse native Fuegian forest and distinctive peat bogs highlighted by reddish tones. The trail crosses the Fuegian Andes, offering views of beaver lodges with explanations of the introduced beaver's ecological impact.
Birdwatchers can spot species including cauquenes, woodpeckers, caranchos, and condors. Upon arrival at the Emerald Lagoon, known for its teal color from glacial origins, there is time to walk along the shore, take photographs, and enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to the city.
In winter (June to September), the lagoon freezes. Temperatures often drop below freezing, so warm clothing and waterproof footwear are required. Walking on snow and ice may require crampons provided during the hike.
