This accessible hike starts 20 minutes north of Ushuaia and leads to Laguna Esmeralda, a glacial lake notable for its emerald color in summer.
Description
Beginning with a hotel pickup, the hike proceeds through Tierra Mayor Valley on a clear, marked path. Depending on the season, the route crosses peat bogs and rocky terrain before passing through forested areas. The trail follows the Esmeralda River until reaching Laguna Esmeralda, whose distinctive color comes from sediments originating at Ojo del Albino Glacier. The lake's emerald hue appears only in summer; in winter it is frozen and snow-covered.
While at the lagoon, participants enjoy a box lunch before returning along the same path. The vehicle will be waiting at the trailhead for the trip back to Ushuaia.
To reduce plastic waste, bring a refillable water bottle. Water will be provided for refills before the trek.
