The tour begins with hotel pickup in El Calafate and a scenic bus ride to Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. At Bajo de las Sombras port, you board a boat crossing Lago Rico to reach the glacier’s south face.
Upon arrival, expert mountain guides provide a briefing before the trek. You will walk along the lakeshore while learning about glaciology. At the glacier, groups of up to 20 receive crampons and helmets for the ice walk. The one-hour guided trek covers glacier features and the ice surface, which is firm and safe.
After trekking the ice, the return route crosses the Bosque Andino Patagónico forest, completing a three-hour walk through lake coast, moraine, ice, and woodland landscapes.
