Description
Set out early from Puerto Natales for one of Patagonia’s most iconic trekking routes, the hike to Base Torres in Torres del Paine National Park. After pickup from your accommodation, travel to Laguna Amarga, where the trail begins. With mountain scenery all around, start a demanding full-day hike that rewards your effort with one of the region’s most memorable views. The first section of the trek takes you through forests and rugged Patagonian landscapes for around 2 hours until you reach Refugio Chileno. Here, you’ll pause to rest and regain energy before continuing the ascent. The trail then climbs for about another 2 hours toward Base Torres, located at approximately 900 meters above sea level. At the top, stand before the towering granite peaks of Torres del Paine and take time to appreciate the landscape and capture photos. After enjoying the viewpoint, begin the return hike with a descent of around 3 to 4 hours back along the trail.
