Description
Southern Patagonia holds some of the most rewarding trout waters in Argentina, and this trip takes you to them with a guide who knows where the fish are on any given day. You are picked up at your hotel in El Calafate and driven roughly 50 minutes to the day's fishing grounds. Your guide chooses the spot in the morning based on weather, water levels and how the fish are behaving, so it may be a river such as the Rico, Santa Cruz or Pelque, or the shoreline of Lake Roca or Lake Argentino. During the drive you cross open Patagonian steppe, with stops for photos and for the guide to point out local flora and wildlife. All fishing is done from shore by wading, in both rivers and lakes. Your guide sets you up with everything you need, whether you fish fly or spinning, and stays with you through the day to work on your casting and your reading of the water. Beginners are welcome: the guide adapts the day to your level and teaches from the basics. Target species include rainbow, brown, brook and lake trout, perch, and chinook salmon. Typical catches run between 500 grams and 2 kilos, depending on the water and the time of season. All fishing is strictly catch and release. Groups are kept small, with a maximum of three anglers per guide and 4x4 vehicle. On the full-day option your guide sets up lunch outdoors: a board of local cheeses and cold cuts, grilled steak cooked on a disc with salad, and red wine.Includes

- All fishing is catch and release, as required by local regulations. Catches are never guaranteed: this is a wild environment and results depend on the conditions of the day. Fishing is done from shore by wading only, never from a boat. Your guide chooses the river or lake on the morning of the trip based on weather, water levels and fish activity, so the exact spot cannot be confirmed in advance. The fishing season runs from November through April.
