Description

Depart from Salta and travel along Provincial Route 68, passing the small towns of Cerrillos, La Merced, and El Carril. Continue on Provincial Route 33 to reach the dramatic Gorge of Escoipe and Las Laureles.

Drive along the Cuesta del Obispo, a winding road ascending to 3,348 meters above sea level. Admire rock formations and look for condors flying overhead while crossing El Valle Encantado ('The Enchanted Valley'). Observe the changing landscape from subtropical valleys to the Recta del Tin Tin, built during Inca times.

Pass through Los Cardones National Park, named for its large cardon cactus formations. Arrive in Cachi for lunch, then walk through its preserved colonial streets, visit the town church in Central Plaza, and explore the historical museum about local Aboriginal communities.
