Highlights
- Tour the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the world's largest glaciers
- Scenic walk along the glacier’s front wall with panoramic views
- Learn about local glaciology and the glacier rupture phenomenon
Description
Depart from Bajo de las Sombras port for a 20-minute boat ride across Lago Rico, enjoying views of the glacier’s south face.
After disembarking, a bilingual mountain guide leads your group (maximum 20 people) to a shelter. From there, you will walk along the lake shore to the glacier’s edge.
On the ice, the guide will assist you with crampons and instruct on their use. The trek passes streams, lagoons, gullies, crevasses, and blue ice formations. The walk is moderate in difficulty with firm but uneven ice surfaces.
Your guide provides information on the region’s flora, fauna, and glaciology, including the glacier rupture phenomenon. The trek ends with a short forest walk back to the shelter.
