Description

Cross the Fuegian Andes via the historic Garibaldi Pass and descend along the original route of National Route No. 3 — only passable by 4x4 — to discover Escondido and Fagnano Lakes. In small groups of up to 5 people and with an expert vaquiano at the wheel. We'll leave Ushuaia at 4:00 p.m. and head northeast on Route 3, with the Beagle Channel and the Andes accompanying the journey. Your guide will share the history and geography of the island as you see Mount Olivia, the Olivia River, Carbajal Valley, and the Alvear Range, home to the highest peaks in Tierra del Fuego. At the Paso Garibaldi — the only road pass that crosses the Fuegian mountain range — you'll enjoy one of the most stunning panoramas in Patagonia: Lake Escondido in the foreground and the immense Lake Fagnano between mountains and forests. There the paved road ends and the real adventure begins: the 4WD descends along the historic gravel track, the first road that crossed the mountain range. After a short walk along the shores of Escondido Lake, we'll continue along Provincial Route 119 through native forests and old sawmill roads to the shore of Fagnano Lake. By the water, at sunset, we share a traditional Argentine picnic with a glass of wine: the perfect ending to six hours of history, scenery, and 4x4 adventure at the End of the World.
