Description

What happens when someone arrives in a city feeling like a foreigner and, over time, ends up helping to build its identity? From Genoa to La Boca is a narrative experience that invites you to explore La Boca from the perspective of the Genoese immigrants who arrived in Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. The story begins in front of the Riachuelo, one of the main arrival points for immigrants. Before getting to know the colorful La Boca we see today, you'll imagine that first moment: arriving in an unknown country, leaving behind a family, a language, and a way of life, and starting over. From the start, you'll receive an immigrant card that represents a real person from that time. Throughout the tour, you'll follow their story as we discover how immigrants found a home, built communities, and began to feel part of a new place. We'll visit an old conventillo to learn how different families shared spaces and how those courtyards became meeting places. We'll also share bruschettas and talk about cucina povera and how Italian recipes began to adapt to the ingredients and circumstances of Buenos Aires. Then we'll arrive at La Bombonera, where football will allow us to discover another dimension of history: belonging. The identity of La Boca was built over generations and even retains words of Genoese origin, such as 'xeneize.' Finally, we'll arrive at Banchero, where we'll try fugazzeta and fainá. More than a food tasting, this moment represents the transformation of a tradition. Genoese cuisine arrived with the immigrants, but in Buenos Aires it was mixed with new ingredients, customs, and ways of eating until it became something different: something of its own. At the end, we'll return to the story of our immigrant. They will no longer be just someone who came from Genoa looking for a better life. They will be part of a much larger story: that of the people who, while building their own lives, also transformed the place they came to. You're not just going to get to know an immigrant neighborhood. You're going to discover how a community of foreigners ended up helping to create something new: the identity of La Boca.
