Description
Located in San Telmo, one of the most authentic corners of Buenos Aires, EL VIEJO ALMACÉN preserves the pure essence of the old city. Its historic streets and buildings reflect the passage of time, leading to the iconic corner of Balcarce and Independencia, internationally recognized as one of the most traditional temples of tango.
The building dates back to the late 18th century, specifically 1769, during the time of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, when it operated as a countryside storehouse.
In 1969, Edmundo Leonel Rivero transformed it into a true “Temple of Tango,” turning it into an essential landmark of Buenos Aires music ever since.
Great tango legends such as Aníbal Troilo, Osvaldo Pugliese, and Roberto Goyeneche left their mark on this venue, which was also visited by international personalities including King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía of Spain, among other distinguished leaders and notable figures.
After closing in 1993 due to economic difficulties, it reopened in 1996 under the management of businessman Luis H. Veiga, who transformed it into an international-level gastronomic complex while preserving the prestigious traditional tango show of Buenos Aires.
