Call it gula, the good sin of eating, drinking and lingering longer than you meant to. This weekend-only day trip trades the city for an Argentine estancia 80 km outside Buenos Aires, and builds the entire day around the country's most generous tradition: sitting at a long table in the countryside from breakfast to sundown.
You'll be picked up in central Buenos Aires and driven out to the estancia, arriving in time for a country breakfast. From there the day unfolds at estancia pace, horseback rides across the pampas, a demonstration of destrezas gauchas (the horsemanship skills that gauchos have refined for generations), and time to wander the grounds and take in the ranch-house architecture.
Then the moment the day is really built around: a full Argentine asado, cooked slowly over open fire and served alongside regional wines and sides. This isn't a tasting portion, it's the real thing, at the pace it's meant to be eaten. Live folklore accompanies the meal: guitars, dance, and the songs that shaped the interior of the country.
After lunch there's merienda, the sacred Argentine mid-afternoon pause with pastries, coffee and mate, before the return transfer gets you back to Buenos Aires by early evening. Available Friday to Sunday, when the estancia opens its gates to visitors and the folklore group is on site. Round-trip transport, all three meals and every activity are included in the price.
