Description

Get ready for one of the most exciting and challenging hikes in Ushuaia: the trek to the Ojo del Albino Glacier. The day begins by taking the traditional trail to the famous Esmeralda Lagoon, passing through sub-Antarctic forests, peat bogs, and ancient beaver dams. Upon reaching the lagoon, its turquoise color and mountainous surroundings give you a glimpse of the natural spectacle that awaits you. From there, the real challenge begins. We circle the lagoon on the right side, advancing cautiously between fallen trees and uneven terrain. Leaving the vegetation behind, at an altitude of about 650 meters, we enter a mountainous area with steep slopes. Here, the physical demands increase, and our expert tour guide chooses the safest and most accessible route for all participants. The ascent continues among loose rocks and natural formations until we reach a panoramic terrace offering breathtaking views of Laguna Esmeralda, Mount Olivia, the 'Cinco Hermanos' (Five Brothers) and the Sorondo mountain range. This is the ideal place to catch your breath and take unforgettable photographs. The final stretch to the Ojo del Albino Glacier requires maximum attention. Using ropes, carabiners, and safety equipment, the tour guide ensures controlled access to the glacier's tongue. Once there, a majestic frozen plain opens up before us, flanked by the Rhino Towers, which silently watch over the landscape. After contemplating this natural wonder, we enjoy a well-deserved lunch with sandwiches and a comforting hot soup. Then, we begin the descent following the same trail, taking with us the memory of one of the most complete, intense, and beautiful journeys at the end of the world. Ideal for travelers in good physical condition and with an adventurous spirit.
