Description
Set sail on a peaceful and scenic journey through the legendary Beagle Channel, a must-do experience in Ushuaia that blends nature, wildlife, and history. Departing from the city’s tourist pier, you’ll cruise across the wide Ushuaia Bay, taking in panoramic views of the southernmost city in the world, nestled between the sea and the dramatic Andes Mountains.
As we reach Paso Chico, the gateway to the Beagle Channel, the landscape opens up into a wild and windswept horizon. Our first stop is Bird Island, where we’ll circle slowly to observe a vibrant array of Fuegian seabirds in their natural habitat — including skuas, black-browed albatross, steam ducks, cauquenes, gray gulls, and cook gulls.
Next, we approach Sea Lion Island, home to colonies of South American sea lions. Watch them bask on the rocks or swim nearby, with their distinctive calls echoing across the channel. Both of these islands are part of the Bridges Archipelago, offering intimate encounters with Patagonia’s rich marine life.
Our navigation continues to one of the most iconic symbols of Tierra del Fuego: the Les Éclaireurs Lighthouse. Often nicknamed the “Lighthouse at the End of the World,” it stands proud against a backdrop of sea and sky. Here, you’ll also learn the fascinating story of the sinking of the Monte Cervantes in 1930 — a tale of survival and maritime history.
On the return to Ushuaia, be sure to take in the stunning views of the snow-capped mountain range that hugs the city and the untouched nature that surrounds it. This calm and enriching excursion is a true highlight of any visit to the southern tip of the Americas — an unforgettable journey through the waters that shaped Patagonia’s history.
