Description
This contemplative excursion is perfect for travelers looking to enjoy the serene beauty and rich culture of Tierra del Fuego at a relaxed pace. The journey offers panoramic viewpoints, local history, and regional cuisine, all framed by the dramatic landscape of Patagonia.
The adventure begins with hotel pickup in Ushuaia, heading north along National Route Nº 3. As the Beagle Channel fades behind, the towering silhouettes of Mounts Olivia and Cinco Hermanos come into view, followed by the vast Carbajal Valley, home to commercial peatlands. Along the way, you’ll pass several valleys that come alive in winter with activities like dog sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.
One of the highlights is a stop at the Haruwen Winter Center (closed on Mondays), host of the National Snow Sculpture Festival. Here, you’ll visit the southernmost artisanal gin distillery in the world, learn about its production process, and enjoy a tasting. Right next door is a vintage motorcycle museum, featuring legendary Argentine models such as Puma, Tehuelche, and Siambretta, along with stories of daring pioneers who rode from one end of the continent to the other.
Continuing the route, you’ll reach the Garibaldi Pass, the highest point of the journey and the only place in Argentina where crossing the Andes Mountains does not involve leaving national territory. This scenic lookout offers breathtaking views of Lake Escondido and Lake Fagnano, surrounded by Patagonian forest.
During the snow-free season (October to May), the tour continues to the shores of Lake Fagnano, one of South America’s largest lakes, stretching over 100 km long and 7 km wide. In winter (June to September), this section is replaced by additional activities at a winter center.
Before returning to Ushuaia, you’ll stop at a local center to enjoy a traditional Fuegian lamb barbecue (optional), followed by dessert and a short moment to relax.
The tour concludes with the final 20 km back to Ushuaia, arriving around 4:00 PM.
A peaceful and enriching day to connect with the nature, culture, and cuisine of the southernmost tip of the world.
