Description

Departures: Thursday to Sunday, year-round. Duration: 4 days / 3 nights. Location: Jujuy, Argentina Type: Trekking excursion. Difficulty: Moderate (good physical condition required; 3 to 5 hours of trekking per day). Altitude: Max 3,900 meters above sea level (overnight at 3,400 meters). This journey immerses you in the traditional rural life of the Andes, unchanged for centuries. In adobe houses with clay kitchens, daily life unfolds through conversations and chores, free from screens and phones. Mornings start with an energetic and traditional Andean breakfast, preparing you for the day’s adventure. The treks offer incredible views of the Serranía del Hornocal, revealing stunning landscapes accessible only on foot. This experience explores the lesser-visited and most surprising corners of the Quebrada de Humahuaca and Valle del Hornocal. You will encounter local wildlife, including pepiteros, hummingbirds, and even condors. Ducks and lapwings by the river, along with many other bird species, are commonly observed throughout the day. While pumas inhabit the area, they typically avoid human presence. The trek also includes visits to sites with significant ancestral heritage, such as the petroglyphs at Angosto de Ocumaso, abandoned ranches, and ancient Inca trails. These magical places in a region still to be fully explored make this circuit one of Argentina's most remarkable attractions. Each evening, we return to our accommodation in Calete to enjoy meals cooked over an open fire, local wines, and natural juices, and rest in rooms with private bathrooms. Itinerary DAY 1: JUJUY – CALETE We travel from Jujuy city to Calete, where we stay and enjoy local cuisine. We take the opportunity to explore the surroundings and enjoy views of Hornocal. DAY 2: CALETE – HORNOCAL VIEWPOINT After breakfast in Calete, we travel to the start of our trek. We walk for 2 hours, taking in views of Hornocal and ancient Inca trails. We have a picnic lunch and return to Calete. DAY 3: CALETE – OCUMASO – PETROGLYPHS We travel to Ocumaso, explore Angosto de Ocumaso and the petroglyphs. We enjoy a picnic and a barbecue dinner with folk music upon returning to Calete. DAY 4: CALETE – JUJUY We return to Jujuy after breakfast in Calete.
