Description

The excursion starts with a pick-up from the hotels in El Chaltén from 8:00 am. After a short 17 km trip along the scenic Route 41 towards Lago del Desierto, you'll arrive at the Los Huemules Nature Reserve, a protected environment of 5,500 hectares surrounded by mountains, glaciers, and Patagonian forests. After check-in and an informative talk, we'll start a moderate-difficulty hike through the Diablo River Valley, accompanied by the sound of water and the possibility of spotting birds like the torrent duck, the condor, or, hopefully, the elusive huemul. The trail gently ascends between lengas and ñires, offering views of Cerro Treinta Aniversario and Loma del Diablo, until you reach Laguna Diablo, a mirror of turquoise water in front of the majestic Cagliero Sur Glacier. There, at the Puesto Cagliero mountain refuge, a cup of hot broth awaits you to enjoy one of the most impressive panoramic views in the region. After lunch, we'll head back along a different trail, which lets us visit the Blue and Green Lagoons, two natural gems surrounded by woodland. You'll head back to the lodge around 4:30 p.m., arriving back in El Chaltén between 5:45 and 6:00 p.m. A complete experience for those looking to connect with Patagonian nature in all its glory.
