If you’re craving an authentic Argentine parrilla experience in the heart of historic San Telmo, look no further than Barbieca Parrilla. This gem delivers everything you want from a traditional Buenos Aires steakhouse — expertly grilled meats, a standout wine list, warm service, and that unbeatable neighborhood atmosphere — without the tourist-trap prices or pretension. I left completely impressed and already planning my return. From the moment you walk in, the fantastic service sets the tone. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about their offerings. They took time to explain cuts, cooking preferences (I went with medium-rare on the recommendations), and perfect wine pairings, making us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. In a city full of great parrillas, the personal touch here really elevates the evening. The star of the show: the meats. The bife de chorizo was absolutely fantastic — perfectly charred on the outside with a juicy, flavorful interior that highlights the quality of the grass-fed beef. It had that ideal balance of tenderness and robust beefy taste that defines great Argentine grilling. Equally impressive were the riñones (kidneys) and mollejas (sweetbreads). Both were excellent: the kidneys grilled to perfection with just the right char and seasoning to tame any gaminess, while the mollejas were crispy on the edges and creamy inside — a true offal lover’s delight. These aren’t always done this well, but Barbieca nailed the traditional preparations while adding their own finesse. Complementing the incredible food is the superb wine selection. They offer an impressive range of Argentine wines, with standout Malbecs, Cabernets, and even some lesser-known varietals that pair beautifully with the rich, smoky flavors from the grill. Our server guided us to a bottle that perfectly balanced the meal — bold enough for the steaks and offal but with enough acidity to refresh between bites. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just want something excellent by the glass, this list is a highlight. The setting in San Telmo adds to the charm — lively yet cozy, with that classic parrilla energy of sizzling grills and happy diners. Portions are generous, the sides (like the provoleta or simple salads) are solid supporting acts, and the overall value is outstanding for the quality. Barbieca Parrilla is the real deal: a place where tradition meets excellence. Whether you’re a local, a visitor exploring San Telmo’s cobblestone streets and antique shops, or simply hunting for one of the best steak experiences in Buenos Aires, this should be high on your list. Highly recommended — 5 stars all the way! Pro tip: Go hungry, share a few cuts to sample more, and save room for a digestif or dessert to round out the evening. ¡Buen provecho!

One of the best “bife de lomo” I’ve ever had. Extremely tender and juicy, they immdiately got what i was looking for, very raw inside with that thin crusty layer outside. Simply perfect. The bread they served with butter at the beginning was also amazing. Great service and place as well!
